Ocean representing emotions

Welcome...

Hello, I’m Emma and I’m a UKCP-registered, qualified psychotherapist providing online counselling and psychotherapy for those having difficulties with their lives, struggling to cope, or who are looking to make positive changes.

Sometimes time can help us to get over difficult life experiences and find a clear way forward.  But sometimes we feel stuck and don’t know how to get back on track.  When we’re not sure of our next step, talking to a therapist can be a helpful avenue of support.

I work with adult individuals within a safe and confidential space for self-exploration and growth. Creating a working relationship that allows clients to be fully heard, without judgement, I help to foster the ability to access their inner resources and to find their own means for change.

Each person’s circumstances are different and their issues are very personal to them.  I’m happy to discuss whether I can be of help to you.

How is winter affecting your mental health?

The winter months can often be the most difficult for those already suffering with their wellbeing.

Some people may additionally suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder), where low mood or depression is connected to a seasonal pattern. Most commonly, this is experienced in the winter months, when the light levels are at their lowest.  For those who do, this can make the colder and darker months that much more challenging.  Even if not, the shorter days can just feel harder, particularly if things have already felt difficult.

Being less inclined to go out and do things can also compound the issue, leading to a sense of isolation and a loss of connection with others.  When we find ourselves often in our own company, it can cause us to turn in on ourselves.  Thoughts tend to feel amplified and stuck, or can spiral without resolution, and can bring us lower.  It’s even more important at such times to try to engage in the activities you most enjoy and that boost your wellbeing.  Particularly if they also bring you in touch with others.  But if you find yourself in a situation where that seems impossible, and you’re struggling, there are places to reach out to.  If you’re considering speaking to a therapist, I’d be happy to hear from you.
